Rotations was written in 1995 at the request of Richard Runnels, a horn player living in Melbourne, Australia. The title refers to several kinds of rotations within the work — from the visual (the movement of the 64 rotary valves of the players), to the explicit (the rotation of material through all the parts), to the implicit (pitch sets varied through rotation).
